Melbourne Show for 2013

Saturday, 21 September to Wednesday, 2 October 2013

I have a real love hate relationship with one thing this time of year, and that one thing is the Melbourne Show. The reason I love/hate the show is because the amount of money I ALWAYS end up spending. But this year I have promised myself that I will be taking X amount of money and leaving the cards at home so I am not tempted to spend well and truly over my budget, after all were heading to QLD in a couple of weeks and I need to save our cash for that.
For sheer fun, discovery and excitement there’s nothing like the worlds of adventure at the 2013 Royal Melbourne Show to enjoy with family and friends across 12 days at Melbourne Showgrounds from Saturday, 21 September to Wednesday, 2 October 2013.
Presented by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) to promote and celebrate excellence in Victorian agriculture, the Royal Melbourne Show is Victoria’s largest annual community event.
One of the kids favourite things at the show are the animals and being able to get up and personal with them. Last year we were lucky enough to watch a sheep give birth to a couple of lambs, it is an experience I will never forget.  The Royal Melbourne Show boasts the largest exhibition of animals in Victoria with thousands of magnificent cows, sheep, goats, dogs and horses competing to win a prestigious Royal Melbourne blue ribbon. There will also be more than 450 animals of 18 varieties to see, cuddle and feed, including lambs, kids, calves, piglets and chicks in the popular Animal Nursery.
There’s a world of agricultural discovery to be experienced at the Show, where children can milk a cow, see shearing demonstrations and learn about where food comes from in the Paddock to Plate Pavilion. At the My Backyard precinct families can learn about urban agriculture and sustainability in a series of activities that are fun, educational and interactive.
One of the other things I am really looking forward to this year is doing a tour of the Masterchef kitchen, being on the set of a place where so many amazing dishes were created and dreams were made and broken.
Ok now one of MY favourite things is the agricultural and food side of things and being able to try all the new products out. Being a blogger I am always open to trying new things and seeing all the hottest things on the market. At the agricultural tent they allow you to sample the finest local produce and join in cooking demonstrations with some of Victoria’s top chefs in the Tastes of Victoria Pavilion.
For the first time ever, popular Melbourne eateries will stage pop-up restaurants in the Tastes of Victoria Pavilion to provide a unique epicurean experience. There will also be daily Masterclasses where you can learn about the finer points of wine, cider, beer, coffee, cheese or chocolate with an industry expert.
The foodie experience at the Show isn’t complete without a visit to the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Deli, which showcases award-winning food and beverages including delectable cheeses, meats, relishes, pastries, coffee and wine from the prestigious Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards. Purchase delicious gourmet treats to enjoy at home with the popular Royal Melbourne Fine Food Deli Bags, available in two great value options.
Thrilling attractions
Go behind the scenes of one of Australia’s most popular cooking shows when the MasterChef Kitchen opens its doors for the first time ever at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Direct from the USA, world famous comic daredevil Bello Nock will entertain and amaze you this year when in an Australian first, he performs a skywalk 30 metres above the Coca Cola Arena. Bello will also perform his world-class live show daily in the Commonwealth Bank Entertainment Dome.
The whole family will be entertained in the Commonwealth Bank Entertainment Dome where it will feature free daily live performances from Yo Gabba Gabba! and the Looney Tunes gang will perform its Classroom Capers show with Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird and Sylvester taking to the stage.
Don't miss the thrills of the Showtime Freestyle Moto X Team as they perform gravity-defying stunts, tricks and backflips at heights of up to 25 metres, as well as spectacular nightly fireworks and a stellar line-up of live music, including performances from Golden Guitar recipients Dianna Corcoran and Jetty Road.
There’s also an amazing array of thrilling carnival rides, live entertainment and special appearances, show bags and much more to experience with family and friends.
Easily accessible by public transport and with great value admissions packages available for your convenience, there’s nothing like the Royal Melbourne Show. I would suggest catching public transport in as it can get quite expensive to park, but not only that you will fight for a parking spot.
Open daily from 9:30am to 9:30pm.
