Finally I have found an
exhibition/event that would be a perfect fit for both my partner and I, this is
of course- Top Shelf in Melbourne. My partner and I share a love for fine
drinks and a large variety, in our house we could be sipping on wine one night
and then move onto a beer/cider and then to a spirit.
The Top Shelf Show
will come to Melbourne from the 9th-10th February 2013
Opening hours of the show: Sunday 9th
February – 11am-6pm; Monday 10th February – 11am-5pm.
Food lovers will be well catered
for, with the Chingon Taco Truck serving premium tacos and Grill Pro’s pellet
grill smokers serving platefuls of slow-cooked barbecued meats. In addition, an
array of stands will offer some of the finest local artisan produce to nibble
on as you explore the show.
Visitors to the festival will also
receive a Top Shelf passport allowing them to enjoy discounted drinks in many
of Melbourne’s top bars, including 1806, Black Pearl and Lily Blacks.
Tickets to the show are just $30 on
the door or $25 when purchased in advance online.
In addition, everyone who purchases
a ticket online will be entered into a draw to win some fantastic drinks
prizes.
Under 18s, who must be accompanied
by a responsible guardian, are admitted free.
I will elaborate a little more on
this as I know there are a lot of mums and dads who would love to go to a show
like this and finally be able to bring their children along. So under 18s are
admitted to the show free of charge (but must be accompanied by a responsible
guardian) so if young mums and dads want to sample a couple of drinks or listen
to the odd presentation, they're welcome to have their kids in tow. There will
be soft drinks and food available too so kids won't go hungry and thirsty- and
this is also great for those designated drivers and to line those bellies
before them drink tasting.
I am always keen to learn the in’s
and outs of how products are made and what is involved in making them and also
the best way of working with them, so this is a perfect opportunity to catch
plenty of talks and presentations aimed at giving visitors ideas for home
entertaining. One talk in particular I am looking forward to is wine educator
Clare Burder who will host a session called Dinner Party Hero, teaching the
fundamentals of food and wine matching without all the serious stuff. She'll
explain about harmony versus contrast, the idea of flavour intensity, the
effect of tannin in red wine and describe how to create a memorable cheese
board - all matched to delicious wine.

Now I will be attending this show
and will blog my experience from many different points of view and also of
course reviews of the drops there (haha.) But I have been lucky enough to be
