REVIEW // Disney On Ice Dare To Dream

Tuesday, 14 July 2015

There aren’t too many things that will ever come in between myself and anything Disney related, especially Disney On Ice.
My morning started with heading into the MCG for a 10:50am start at our teams Stadium Stomp, which had us conquering over 7,500 steps in just under and hour and a half.
By the time I got home it was close to 2pm, which left me 2 hours to have a nap and get ready for Disney On Ice.
Having a nap was the biggest rookie mistake I have ever made and my calves kept cramping up and I could barely walk. This wasn’t going to stop me though and I did a quick dash to get ready and get out the door with the rest of the family.
We parked practically where I parked where I parked across the road at the MCG. My mind quickly skipped to wondering whether or not I would have to face anymore steps, and my wonder soon turned into reality when I saw to sets of stairs- great!
We were seated a few rows from the front on the top level, but great seats in front of the rink. To be honest I don’t think there is such thing as a bad seat at the Hisense Arena when watching Disney On Ice.

Disney On Ice Dare To Dream had Miss M screaming for more quite literally, all because Rupunzel AKA Tangled got a huge amount of time on the ice. Miss M is obsessed with Rupunzel and often thinks she is the one and only Rupunzel.
Miss H’s favourite part was Cinderella and I think Miss H is going to be one of those girls who dream about her fairy tale ending. She loved the whole romance and then also the amazing acrobatics on ice-skates. I was actually with Miss H on this, the skills these performers showed were out of this world and they made ice-skating look so simple.

I am going to have to be completely honest here though; Mr M and I both made a comment about the Disney On Ice shows becoming very much alike with a few differences between them.
I do believe last years Snow White scene was similar and the same with Cinderella but the kids were 100% happy with the show and loved every minute.
Usually Miss M is begging for the toilet half way through the show, sometimes even before hand. As soon as the show finished she was in desperate need of the toilet. This tells me that the show was something she definitely didn’t want to miss, lucky for me though because the interval toilet lines for women were out of control!

I think with all my reviews on this show I mention how expensive the merchandise is. But being Disney I think they can get away with it and parents would pay as well. Each and every single year we pay $16 for a Disney Themed cup with ice in it and a little bit of coloured syrup.  And every single time Miss M gets to her seat and begins eating her ice and then a thud- she drops the entire thing and makes you feel even worse for paying $16 for the cup and ice.
Apart from the merchandising though there is not anything else negative I can say about Disney On Ice Dare To Dream.

Online it did say something about witnessing the journey with Princess Tiarna but we arrived a tad bit late and I just assumed we missed it possibly.
The Melbourne and Sydney shows were the end of this tour so unfortunately I cannot convince you to go, but I would suggest putting it on your radar when the next show is released!

I had extremely good intentions in the lead up to the Stadium Stomp when it came to training. But in the end life as a Mummy and a blogger got in the way and my training schedule wasn’t as gruelling as planned.

But having said this, this would be a great indicator on doing the Stomp at all levels of fitness.
Fast Flyers were the team we created and my team consisted of North Melbourne Football Club beautiful other halves and wives (Hannah, Shayne, Heidi, Prue, Linda). In the end we raised $2,200 for the Leukaemia Foundation’s House Of Hope, and we really do hope that this put a dint into the making of this house!

We ended up decided to conquer the full course, because what was the point of going half way into something- so we bit the bullet and swallowed our fears.
I can personally say, I will never in my life look at the MCG the same way and will now cherish the little amounts of steps I have to climb when getting food/drinks/toilet runs while watching NMFC play ( luckily we don’t actually play there a lot haha).

The team and I were glad we didn’t pick the half course as we were done half an hour through, but three quarters of the way through the full course I know most of us wished we took the half course.
As I write this from the comfort of my couch, my legs really don’t like me right now J I stretched and walked it out as much as I could but this didn’t help my legs the next day at all I don’t think.
You know what, the thing for me was pushing myself to the limit where my body just wanted to shut down- my legs did anyway. For me it really wasn’t a cardio challenge and very rarely did I run out of breath, for me it was getting my darn legs to move the way my brain wanted them to.

The Stadium Stomp volunteers were absolutely amazing and the real icing on the cake.  So much encouragement and enthusiasm really pushing you through when you felt you were about to give it all up.
Stadium Stomp did provide you with drink stops with both water and Powerade, and I was happy with there only being three drink stops. Our bodies constantly look for ways to avoid something or find an excuse and sometimes that is your drink bottle or water. My body physically didn’t need hydration till after the Stomp as realistically it was only an hour and a half workout. But my brain wanted a pit stop after every 4 flights of stairs.
7,400 steps under my belt and it was time for Fast Flyers to really dig deep and climb down the last flight of steps that would then take us down onto the ground of the MCG where we had to do a half lap and pass the finish line.

Surprisingly the run was a nice change to the legs and felt great to be doing something other then stepping up and then stepping down again.
In the end the team and I took an hour and 25minutes, but it was a massive achievement for us personally- and we stuck together the entire time!
There were a mix of people there from young to old and then any fitness level imaginable, so not for one second do you ever feel like you don’t belong there.
I did ask the team if they were willing to go at it again next year and most of them said yes, I know personally I would because fitness wise so far it is the biggest challenge I have set myself- right after loosing 10kg of baby fat!

What is the biggest fitness challenge you have set yourself and would you be game enough to take the Stomp challenge with me next year?

I remember watching many shows as a child, and some of these I like to keep going with my girls. One show I remember while in High school and then my eldest daughter watching while young was Hi- 5.
Although these days things are so much different and there seems to be new people filling places to often. I remember when they used to be Nathan, Charlie, Tim, Kathleen and Kellie. And the same thing goes with the Wiggles and those kinds of shows; nothing beats the original.
One thing remains the same though and that is  the beloved puppets Chatterbox (Chats) and Jup Jup, although the voices has changed a lot you cannot tell.  I am not sure if you are aware but the voices of the puppets have actually also been the Hi 5 members.  Tim and Charlie also doubled as the voices of the puppets J

So I decided these school holidays I would bite the bullet and take the kids to see High 5 as they love watching it on Tv, and to be honest I didn’t mind Stevie at all and thought he fit the original part quite nicely.  As we went to find out though, Stevie has hurt his foot and there was someone else stepping in on his behalf- who know maybe a new Hi 5 member to replace one they have now.
But anyway, we had awesome seats and I really do have to praise the staff of The Palais Theatre in St Kilda as they didn’t tell the kids off when they got up and started dancing in small sections of the isle. That is actually my pet peeve having a children’s concert or show somewhere they cannot actually get up and dance- it is almost like having a rave in a library where you have to be quiet; idiotic!
The show was great and I even had a Mummy come up to me and tell me that Miss M was just as entertaining as the show- she got right into it!
Having said this my girls loved the show, the were dancing and singing along, I even saw their Nanna singing along a few times.

The Hi 5 show this time around was called the House Of Dreams and focused on the Hi 5 Cast’s favourite dreams and what they wanted to dream about when they went to sleep.
Chats was magical in this show and changed their dreams slightly while still keeping the main favourites in each of the High 5 Dreams.
I loved this show as it really cemented in the purpose of the Dream catcher, which both of my girls have in their rooms to keep the bad dreams away.  Miss H was having some really hefty bad dreams, and I remember my Step Mother putting a dream catcher up for me and it would keep every single bad dream of mine away- some might say it is a subconscious thing but I believe in them.

The show did go for quite a while, our show started at 4:30 and then ended at 6:30 with an interval in between. So I would definitely say you get great value for your money, and the poor High 5 cast sweat their little bodies off.
One negative I did find though is their merchandise prices were Ludacris and you certainly didn’t get your value for money. The girls Nana went and got them a hand each, which she paid $10 for I think… $10 FOR A FOAM HAND!!! And then Miss M who is about to turn 4’s one ripped almost straight away (not even before the show began) leaving her on a little bit of a low in the lead up to the show.
I want to finish this post on a positive thought, so I do regret almost not taking my kids to this show and almost feel bad putting it down, all because the cast changed. My girls absolutely loved it and their smiles were priceless.

I am not sure who was more excited to see Inside Out the kids or myself! I am such a sucker for a good kids movie and love having my girls as an excuse to keep on watching them for as long as they enjoy them J
The movie was so good the we went twice, the first was at the movies in Northland and then the second time was at the Drive In's in Coburg. Coburg Drive In's are our favourite because we love camping out in the back of the car- on a mattress of course. But we didn’t watch this mo
vie alone, we actually had some extra friends come along.. These extra friends were:
A Talking Sadness Plush toy.

Small Plush BING BONG       Small Plush Joy      Small Plush Sadness

All the kids and I had all different favourite characters and mine for some reason was Bing Bong, he is the type of creature you imagined in your wildest dreams as a child. I actually loved how sweet, caring and yet somehow dopey this character was.
Madison’s favourite was Sadness, and I don’t think this is because she loves being sad but more because she loves the colour blue. Maddy was lucky enough to have been sent the Talking Sadness Plush, which I hear speaking in her room at all hours of the night, as this is the toy she chooses to sleep with now.

Hayley’s favourite was Joy, and suited her quite well, as Hayley is always happy no matter the situation.  Joy played a beautiful part in this movie and I can see why she could easily become a child’s favourite.
All the plush toys are actually very soft and made of a high standard, unlike those you can sometimes get in the claw machines at the movies.
It is always a craze to get the toys that come it with a movie, no matter how long the movie hangs around after the cinemas. For me I will only ever buy the girls a toy if I think you are getting value for money, and these definitely sit up there in that category!
